Stanislav Grof - short CV:
Dr. Stanislav Grof (1931 -) is a psychiatrist with over fifty years of experience in the field of altered states of consciousness. He was born in Prague, where he also completed his studies and began his scientific career. He first researched and actively participated in the validation of the therapeutic potential, then a fairly new and promising substance of LSD and some other psychedelic substances.
In 1967, he was invited to do research at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and since then has lived and worked in the United States. He continued his work as research director at the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center. He co-taught at the Henry Phipps Clinic and at Johns Hopkins University. In 1973, he became a Resident Researcher at the Esalen Institute in California, where he and his wife, Christina, developed a simple method to achieve holotropic states of consciousness: Holotropic BreathworkTM.
He also founded the International Association of Transpersonal Psychologists (ITA) and organized and conducted many of its conferences around the world. He is currently a professor of psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) and wries books.
